2010 Deaf Extreme - Georgia's Statewide Transition Conference for Students, Parents, and Professionals (8:30 am - 3 pm EST)

Event Description: Deaf Extreme is a free transition conference for Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ages 13-21, or 8th-12th grade) Parents, Teachers, and other Professionals. The conference rotates throughout the state; four postsecondary institutions rotate as hosts of the conference every year. This year Valdosta State University will host Deaf Extreme 2010. Facilitators/Trainers work with students on self-advocacy and leadership skills. Parents, teachers, students and other professionals will learn how laws, policies, accommodations, and assistance differ after high school. Everyone will gain knowledge about how to make the transition from high school to higher education or to the world of work. Georgia/Florida PEPNet-South, Georgia Highlands College, Valdosta State University, Georgia Perimeter College, & The University of Georgia sponsor Deaf Extreme. The planning committee also includes representatives from Vocational Rehabilitation, the Technical College System of Georgia, The Georgia Department of Education and other community leaders.
