Abstract

Recent estimates suggests that there are approximately 1000-2000 deaf students attending regular four-year colleges and universities which do not have special programs for deaf students. Current research suggests that these students can be classified as academically gifted and have certain characteristics that contribute to their academic and social integration in a mainstreamed postsecondary environment. Interviews with both students and service providers show that the adequacy and quality of services for these students varies from campus to campus. The presentation will report on this research.
