Abstract

While young Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults are often prepared to meet the requirements of high school or postsecondary graduation, many are unprepared to meet the challenges of what follows graduation. This presentation will highlight some of the challenges that confront graduates and how postsecondary transitional programming can assist students in addressing these challenges, and in addition, help them to move toward the next phase of adulthood. Areas that will be focused on include: (1) meeting the needs of students who desire to continue their postsecondary education and (2) identifying, applying, obtaining, maintaining and developing a community awareness for resources.
