Abstract
For many high school/college age students whose primary language is ASL,
developing proficiency in reading and writing English is a second language
acquisition experience. This presentation describes English language
software which has been used for more than ten years by deaf students at
California community colleges. Since 1992, the programs have been
distributed to institutions across the U.S. and in Canada.
The software featured contains three individual programs. The first
provides training for over 2200 vocabulary words. The second deals with
multiple meaning English words. The third program provides proofreading
exercises to help deaf students address common writing problems.
