The American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association (ADARA) will host its annual conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota this year on May 29-June 1. This conference brings together professionals networking for excellence in service delivery with individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing, gathering around the theme of “Blazing New Trails.” Workshops will be tracked into four categories including Mental Health/Chemical Dependency, Rehabilitation, Transition/Independent Living and Professional Development.
This session will use several case studies to illustrate common issues which surface when students who are deaf or hard of hearing, from countries other than the U.S., enroll at American postsecondary institutions. The reasons for their enrollment may range from standard study-abroad programs to family moves to the U.S. to the need for American licensure to practice their professions, but many similar issues arise across situations.
