What are the biggest funding issues on your campus? finding and maintaining accommodations funding? Explaining costs administrators?  Developing a streamlined system, whether it be centralized or decentralized?

One pepnet 2 focused on these issues:

2009 pepnet Postsecondary Interpreting and Speech to Text survey includes information about how insitutions budget for accomodations, centralized, de-centralized, etc.  Link: http://resources.pepnet.org/files/280_2010_3_24_18_17_PM.pdf

One interesting finding in the above survey is that approximately 30% of the campuses responding said they have a centralized interpreting/captioning service budget, meaning the campus has provided funds to one office to cover scheduling of all campus interpreting/captioning requests.

I wonder if the trend will go, that more campuses will develop a more centralized plan for funding. I recall that article from a school in the southwest that explained the tens of thousands of dollars it saved.

One interesting finding from the above survey is that approximately 30% of the responding campuses said they get general institutional funding for a centralized interpreting/captioning services system so that all requests flow through and are paid for out of one office.

I'm curious about grant funding for disability services offices at universities. Does anyone know of any in particular? I've done some research online, but there's quite a bit to wade through. Maybe this should be its own thread, but I'm new to the forum.

Hi there, Thanks for posting to the pn2 forum! We're just getting this rolling, so you're one of the first few folks to post.  We appreciate you joining.
You're correct, you've kind of raised of new point, but I'll answer it quickly here. In general there are not grants available to fund direct services, such as interpreting or captioning, because based on legal guidelines each institution is responsible to cover those costs.  That doesn't stop us from searching for ways to save money, or streamline costs by maybe teaming up with another campus and sharing service providers.  I hope this is helpful and sorry again for the delay in response as we get the forum up and running!
