Video Remote Interpreting seems to be a useful service for rural areas with interpreter shortages, but what about bandwidth issues? Can anyone from rural campuses post about bandwidth issues?  Do you have access to dependable high speed?

Here in Alaska we have several Deaf Ed Interpreters out in the bush. We were just having a discussion at our annual conference about bandwidth issues. It is definitely a problem for them as is the dependability. Even the weather can impact their ability to be on the internet. Video Remote interpreting is very useful, but not always reliable! Being in Juneau we have less issues than the more remote areas.

Jessica,

This Alaska situation is really interesting. I think many people would like to hear more about it, how much VRI is being used in educational environments, whether they are K-12 or postsecondary, etc.

In terms of reliable/consisten bandwidth, do you ever hear about prioritizing a certain room/ethernet port so they get the best bandwidth availability first?
