This publication is a comprehensive ecological-based protocol for a communication skills evaluation of a person who is deaf and low functioning. The four sections of the evaluation are (1) development of a consumer communication profile, (2) assessment of the communication environment, (3) consumer-environment match and (4) intervention and natural supports. The instrument contains extensive checklists to aide the evaluator during the assessment, including a listing of possible natural supports. A sample report outline is provided. This resource was developed in 1996 by Dr. Greg Long through the Research and Training Center on Traditionally Underserved Persons who are Deaf at Northern Illinois University.

Pepnet 2 provided me with prompt, very helpful advising when I contacted them about an interpreter question. Their response was very thorough and informative. I recommend them to any higher education institution that needs information about best practices.
