This one hour TeleTraining was designed to share information about the issues related to serving deaf consumers who are low functioning and the impact of services related to serving this population. Participants will be invited to explore unique issues and barriers to serving persons who are deaf and low functioning and will become familiar with strategies to navigating services for these consumers. Some of the topics discussed in this TeleTraining were:
- Description of the population
- Background regarding services
- Family issues
- Assessment strategies
- Multiple diagnoses
- Socio-economic status and implications
- Family support availability
- Urban vs. rural issues
- Service needs and service models
- Overlapping DD and VR scenario
- Video under development
- Positive service models in Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, and Pennsylvania
