Elluminate vSpaces is software for unlimited online meetings, classes, and events in real time. Elluminate enables collaboration in a virtual meeting room or courses for students in an interactive virtual classroom. With Elluminate you can hold live webinars, seminars, or large classes in a virtual auditorium.
Elluminate vSpaces are available in three single-room configurations:
- Elluminate vClass: a shared virtual room for 50 to 400 participants with a customizable moderator name. Useful for online, auditorium-style classes, lectures, seminars, and more.
- Elluminate vOffice, a personal virtual room for 50 participants with a fixed moderator name. Useful for unlimited, on-demand meetings and classes.
- Elluminate vRoom, available free by joining LearnCentral, Elluminate's social learning network for education. Useful for three-person meetings with full functionality, except recording and integrated teleconferencing.
The Elluminate suite of products includes:
- Elluminate Plan! for organizing, scripting, packaging content and activities before a live session, and automating routine tasks.
- Elluminate Live! enables instructors and students to interact and collaborate in real time to add synchronous content to asynchronous distance learning or to combine blended online/onsite learning activities.
- Elluminate Publish! creates stand-alone recordings or industry-standard video files from Elluminate Live! session recordings that can be stored on a computer, LMS, website, or CD-ROM. Play back the video files on a mobile device or view the stand-alone recordings even when not connected to the Internet.
Here are some of the access features and considerations for using Elluminate discussed at PEPNet's Think Tank-2:
- Integrated closed captioning, used with Dragon. Multiple streams of closed captioning available. The user can select which captioning to use.
- Can save closed captioning transcript for later use.
- The moderator, teacher, or lecturer has the option to see whether a participant is using the captioning.
- Streaming in multiple languages.
- Most of Elluminate is accessible to screen readers. Currently, however, screen readers can't use images on the whiteboard.
- The Notes section is handy for text equivalents.
- Every user can adjust his/her own view, including font sizes, resolution, and color schemes.
- Has audio-integrated telephony.
- Accelerator keys available.
- Any student can get a transcript of a class.
- New generation coming with better access for people who are blind or who have mobility impairments, and is now being tested with ASL.
- The new Version 10, released June 2010, offers:
- The activity Window that provides a text "timeline" of all session activities, including text from PowerPoint slides for screen reader access.
- Provides a command line interface for typing commands such as "/hand up."
- At least one customer is successfully using Elluminate video for ASL.
- Configurable audible notifications to alert users when key events occur.
- Improved keyboard navigation and added F6 navigation between major modules (participant, chat, audio, and whiteboard).
