GoToMeeting, which does not have a videoconferencing component, allows you to host an online meeting with up to 15 people. With GoToMeeting, you can share any application on your computer in real time. You can start a meeting instantly from either a PC or a Mac. You can also schedule a meeting in advance or create a recurring meeting that is ready to use at any time. GoToMeeting integrates videoconferencing scheduling with Microsoft® Outlook.
The meeting leader can invite others by sending an e-mail or instant message and providing a meeting ID to enter online. Attendees choose whether to use their telephone or their computer's microphone and speakers.
The meeting organizer may choose to share an entire screen or choose to just show a specific application. Documents can be edited collaboratively onscreen by all attendees. Meetings may be recorded for future review and reuse. The organizer can transfer keyboard and mouse control to another participant. There are drawing tools and a chat feature. GoToMeeting recently added integrated toll-free audio service.
Among other features are mute and un-mute functions; options to record audio or video only; several formats to save in; integration Microsoft® Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and a quick launch for Skype™ and other applications.
Here are some of the access features and considerations for using GoToMeeting that were discussed at PEPNet's Think Tank-2:
- Can make adaptations so that GoToMeeting is more friendly and accessible. Example: participants can enlarge and change font and background colors.
- Embedding captioning is difficult. But you can use "share my screen" to see captions.
- Can be used with TypeWell and C-print, etc.
